Exceptional doctor! Exceptional staff! It’s hard to know where to begin when attempting to describe the level of expertise, compassion, and dedication I received from Dr. Nelson Menezes and his wonderful staff. As a senior of 70+ years with multiple medical issues, I have been under the care of dozens of physicians during my lifetime, and I can say without the slightest hesitation that I rank my satisfaction and delight with Dr. Menezes at the very top of that long list of physicians.
Dr. Menezes is truly a one-in-a-million physician. And I don’t just mean this in regard to his knowledge as a physician and his skills as a surgeon which, as can be seen by his stellar resume, are obviously outstanding. Even more impressive to me, however, are his interpersonal skills, his attitude toward his patients. And in that regard, in all of my long experience in dealing with the medical profession, I have seen no equal. In fact, as far as vascular specialists go — and having myself been under the care of at least a dozen of them over the last several decades — it is, at least in my opinion, a rare thing indeed to find a doctor with the capacity to show such true concern about their patients’ issues. In stark contrast to the impersonal attitude commonly encountered, what one instantly feels from a first visit to Dr. Menezes is that he, in fact, does really care. And his compassion shows. He never hurries you through: he takes the time to get to know you; to ask thoughtful, detailed questions; to give you the time to ask whatever questions you may have without ever making you feel rushed. And best of all, he never — as so many if not most doctors seem to do these days — talks down to you: instead, he talks “to” you. As a result, each visit or procedure I’ve experienced at his office has been more like dealing with a concerned friend than with the kind of cold and stand-offish physician one might otherwise be expecting to find. A rare and exceptional attitude which, sadly, is all too uncommon these days.
Furthermore, I found this feeling of being with caring friends to be amplified many times over by Dr. Menezes’s totally outstanding staff, led by his wonderful and highly-efficient practice manager, Gary, along with funny, talented and amazing chief medical assistant, Antony. Then there are at least two other totally sweet, lovely, warm, caring and super-friendly assistants by the names of Lindsay and Asha, who never fail to greet you with big smiles on their faces, and who obviously love interacting with and helping every single patient. It really shows. And finally, there is the unexpected delight that is to be found in the person of Dr. Menezes’ charming and amazing ultrasound technician, Eleonora. It is truly rare to find a tech who is as devoted to her work as is she, and who relates in such a warm and caring way to her patients. She always finds a way to put you at ease, no matter how anxious you may be. Eleonora is a gem and a true sweetheart.
In addition to this full complement of outstanding professionals — as I have undergone three separate venous ablation treatments on my legs in as many months, all at the Joralemon Street office — I would be remiss not to mention Dr. Menezes’s expansive and what looks to be world-class procedure room tucked away on the far side of the office. The amount and variety of medical equipment and supplies is impressive and appears to be top notch and more like what you would expect to see in a large, modern hospital, not in a doctor’s office. He had three to four assistants in the room with him for every procedure, including an anesthesiologist, and each and every one of them made me feel safe, comfortable and relaxed at all times. Hey, they even play relaxing music in the background! In my case, I chose not to be sedated, so I got to enjoy the music, as well as pleasant and often humorous conversation as the doctor, staff and I interacted during the procedures. In light of the comfort level and relatively fast and easy recovery period afforded by the first procedure, I was actually excited about going back as soon as possible to complete the final two. Results of all three procedures have been extremely successful, with minimal discomfort overall. I couldn’t be more pleased!
Moving my vascular care over to Dr. Menezes has been an unexpectedly refreshing, eye-opening and, I would even say, life-changing experience. I can completely and unequivocally recommend Dr. Menezes and his fantastic staff. They are the absolute best!
